ABOUT LIZ

The key facts…
I’m a writer, cat wrangler and dreamer turner doer.

Two questions I’m often asked by readers are how I became a writer, followed by why I write about Cornwall.

My answer to the first often surprises people when I tell them that my first book wasn’t published until I was forty-nine. I have always wanted to be a writer but writing commercial fiction is a significant commitment. It wasn’t until I was in my forties that I developed the perseverance to complete, edit, edit and edit again a book. When I received my first two-book deal, my contract required me to write a book a year. Suddenly I didn’t have the luxury of time anymore. Gone was the time to get the story wrong, time to enjoy the plot holes, and time to enjoy the side trips down research rabbit holes. Years later I am now an award-winning author with nine novels and two novellas behind me. The writing process can still be challenging, but I love it and I will continue as long as my readers still love my stories!

The second question, why Cornwall, is so much easier to answer. In many ways I have to blame my husband. It was June 1989 when my then boyfriend, now husband, first brought me to Cornwall. If I hadn’t fallen in love with him and with Cornwall, I’m not sure where we’d be today! But fall in love I did, with him and with Cornwall. The Cornish landscape has become the inspiration for much of my writing. It’s raw and primeval, and it provides an evocative backdrop for human actions and so makes the ideal setting for a book and a character in and of itself.

Cornwall has truly become my muse and I really hope I’m able to share with you through my writing some of her beauty, her mystery, and her history!
